In 1976, Jose “Pepe” Antonio Ortega emigrated from Cuba to Miami with his wife and children. Pepe, who built Sazón Goya and other brands, always valued his education and established The Ortega Foundation so he could provide scholarships to his employeesâ children. Today, Pepeâs family honors his legacy through a scholarship program at The Miami Foundation.
With the support of donors around the globe, The Miami Foundation raised $6.4+ million for relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Irma and Maria in our region. To date, weâve awarded $5.4 million to support organizations addressing key needs as we work to ensure our community prepared for the 2018 hurricane season.
